Dear LACTNET readers,

In south Louisiana there is a nursing mother who has a bad case of
kidney stones (they look like mardi gras beads on the xray). Her baby
is only 1 month old. After the surgery next week, she is to start a
medication called Urocit-K (potassium citrate). She will take 80 mg
TID. There is no mention of it in Tom Hale's MEDICATIONS AND MOTHER'S
MILK, 2000. On a pharmaceutical site,
http://www.missionpharmacal.com/urocitk/prescribing_info.htm
it says that pediatric safety has not been determined.

Is there any information about use of this medication in a breastfeeding
mother?
