I need some advice.  I have a mom who wrote "When my daughter was 4-6
weeks old (now 5 months) I developed Mastitis in the left breast.  I had
flu-like symptoms, a red streak and discovered a golf-ball sized lump in
the upper left quadrant of the left breast.  I went to the doctor who
prescribed a 10-day course of Keflex and aggressive nursing/pumping to
alleviate what we assumed was a blocked duct.  Doctor advised to return
in 3 months if lump did not go away.  Three months later lump was still
there (maybe a bit bigger).  I had a sonogram done and it appeard to be
mostly solid, some liquid.  After consulting a surgeon, I was told that
to remove the lump I would have to quit lactating.  At 5 months my
daughter still nurses ever 2-2.5 hours and we are in the middle of a
stressful time (moving), I did not want to do this.  The doctor was
concerned about  "milk fissures," or milk leaking through the incision.
When I asked about a needle biopsy to just relieve my mind, he indicated
the same concern.  He believes the lump is just a milk cyst due to it's
shape (smooth edges) and the history of mastitis, lactating breast, my
age and lack of breast cancer history in my family.  I would like to know
that this is not breast cancer, yet I do not want to interrupt my
nursing."

Does anyone have any information I can give this mom.  I don't have any
experience with this but I think the mom is right to be concerened.
