As I was reshelving my JHL's this morning (still unpacking from our relocation
to Oakville, Ontario this summer!), I ran into an article that might help you
out, Cynthia: Increasing your credibility with physicians: strategies for
lactation consultants, E.L. Williams, Journal of Human Lactation, March 1995, 11
(1), pages 3-4. If you do not have access to this issue of the JHL, e-mail me
with your address and I'll send you a copy of the editorial. My thought is that
you may want to offer the article to the pediatrician as a tool for him to use
in speaking with the LC. With this introduction, the pediatrician will probably
read the article himself, gaining insight into the value of working with an LC.
Additionally, the article will assist the LC in resolving this situation with
the physician by giving her something other than that one situation to focus her
comments on. I personally like offering published material to help when I'm
asked as a third party for my 2 cents - it relieves me from *taking sides*,
allows me to respond to the request for help, and usually doesn't offend either
party.
