If the woman is very active it could be caused lactic acid production.
Just a thought.

Subject: Cause of odorous breastmilk (not lipase?)

 Dear Lactnetters,
I posted on this subject 3 years ago and never got any feedback and
am now posting on behalf of a colleague who has yet joined and enjoyed
the ranks of Lactnet. Since this is a weekend, perhaps more Lnetters
will respond.
I found very little in the archives with the exception of my own
2003 inquiry. This baby is one month old. Mom has recently noticed
"body odor/sweat" odor to her milk (bilaterally) and odor to baby's
mouth and breath. She notices it when she expresses also. So, this is
not entirely like free-standing milk w/ enzymatic activity.
No meds (including herbs), oversupply, recent mastitis, no known
endocrine or metabolic issues, hyperhydrosis, change in liquids or diet
etc. Urine/stools normal. We are stymied for etiology. Although baby
will nurse, has recently pulled off some and grimaced. According to her
LC, she has just got things going well and obviously does not want this
to interfere.
Never heard back on similar case in 2003. On that case I smelled
it-more like smelly socks/locker room. Young mom and she weaned as a
result. The only different variable is this mom has breast implants.
Any ideas?
