Hi,

There is an individual story for all adoptive breastfeeders. Your
friends baby may take to it quickly or not. I adopted my beautiful
daughter Guan from China when she was 10mnths old. I had breastfed 3
other (biological children) and handily my 5 yr old daughter was still
feeding - good for both the milk supply and to "show Guan what to do"
But, Guan didn't get the gist of it til just before her second birthday.

Your friend could do no better than to get a copy of the Australian
Breastfeeding Asssociation's "Relactation and Adoptive Breastfeeding"
(written by Karleen Gribble)
We always co-slept with Guan (I've just crept out now leaving her
snuggled in bed) and carried her in a sling. We read her storybooks
featuring breastfeeding, and she was a regular at ABA, so was exposed to
other children feeding. Some of my fabulous friends gave me extra milk
which Guan drank from a cup - I never had a large milk supply. Luckily I
had others in ABA for encouragement, and I was forwarned that it could
take some time.
Anyway, the good news, Guan turned 5 on Christmas eve and will be going
to school this year - and still breastfeeding most nights.
Regards
Barb
