Jeanette-

What doses are you seeing in your area of California? And are those women
still being encouraged to breastfeed? I was intrigued by your post about
the methadone reimbursement and how it affects the dosages being
prescribed. I'm up in Seattle and in just the past year, I have noticed
several mothers on doses as high as 250mg! It seems there is a dichotomy
amongst practitioners about whether or not this is safe for breastfeeding.
What information are you receiving with regard to these high doses and
breastfeeding? I do know one thing for sure - these babies are taking it
hard. They are withdrawing earlier than we've seen in the past, are
requiring massive amounts of morphine and are thus taking forever to wean.

Thanks,

Christina Harris, RN
