Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this, my PC has been down for a
few days.

First, I should say that the client and the LC are very good friends and so
after trying about every known remedy to man (or woman) on clearing the
duct, only then did they both decide to puncture it. The RN has been an RN
for more than 20 years, in all types of settings from what I gathered, from
surgical to peds., and has been an LC for quite some time too. So just
from knowing that, I don't know whether or not a consent form was given, I
am a good friend of the client and wanted to observe just to see what they
were going to do (not because I feel that I am qualified to do it, but just
out of curiosity). It was done in the client's home and the fluid, which it
wasn't fluid per say, it was hard, curdled like over ripe milk, it was not
cultured. And I can only assume her training with aspiration and puncturing
in general came from her years working as a surgical RN.

As I said, it was interesting to observe but I too don't think I would ever
attempt this, even after 20 years of practice. I don't know if other LCs,
here on LN or otherwise do this on a regular basis, I did not get the
feeling that the LC in question did this routinely, but at least after
observing it, I could then hopefully encourage an MD to do the procedure if
needs be.
