Just thought I would add our families latest foray into cabbage
experimentation.
My husband fell while taking dogs out early Sat AM & broke his wrist (the
radial head, ulna & scaphoid), we just happened to be out of ice but I
had my trusty head of cabbage. (I was going to use cabbage plus ice) So
I wrapped his arm from elbow to palm of hand with cabbage and wrapped at
dish towel around to hold cabbage in place. When we got to the hospital,
I dropped him off at emergency door, then went to find a parking space.
By the time I reached him, they had his arm in a sling and a package of
ice replacing my cabbage. So I took the ice out, replaced the cabbage &
then replaced the ice. I was very pleased with the result, there was
absolutely no swelling or bruising anywhere but his fingers - that I
hadn't wrapped. We were able to contrast this to the horrible swelling &
bruising I had after breaking 4 bones in my foot years ago where the
swelling & bruising was extensive from toes to knee, delaying casting for
over 2 weeks. They were able to do a closed reduction & cast Scott's arm
immediately. We were able to spread the cabbage 'word' to several staff
members who were curious about it. I think we were taken a bit more
seriously because they knew Scott as a provider.
Has anyone outside the lactation field done any research/studies on
cabbage?
