This is my first posting to the net, so bear with me! I am working with a
mom that insists that her nipples do not come out far enough (all though to
my observation they do.) She is wondering about a type of breastshell she
used about 3 years ago, that she feels "really pulls her nipples out" It
is not the hobbit A little background: Baby born April 11 mom having
difficulty rousing infant while at the hospital, goes home with pump, mom
calls me with concerns about latching, medications shes using, and about
milk supply. Home visit 4/13 reveals baby unable to latch, most likly due
to tight frenulum, frenulum is clipped next day. mom says everything is
great in a followup call 4/15 babys nursing great milk supply is great shes
happy. 5/1, I get another call mom started expressing a week ago when she
realized baby was below birth weight at his 2 wk check, she now has a very
sore breast a baby that wont latch and is thinking about drugs to dry up
unless she can find this shell that will bring her nipples out. Mom is
being treated for depression is on prozac, amitripyline as well as tagamet
and oxybutrin. Her physician is aware shes breastfeeding. Sorry this is so
long. Chris Clark RCP, IBCLC
