Hi Tricia,
I have been out of town for my daughter's wedding!
When things are going along w/o problems, I don't recommend anything
specific. But I have recommended that advice for a baby gaining poorly and
shouldn't need a formula supplement but just needs more breast time.
--discontinue pacifier
--wake baby up if he sleeps long stretches
--do "switch" nursing if baby is "fizzling out" at the 1st breast and
sleeps the last 10 minutes
--try to burp and arouse and offer 2nd breast

So I recommend this only in the context of needing to help baby's weight
gain and/or mom's supply, which often go hand in hand.

I also have seen many mothers who offer the first breast and then if baby
cues more, they offer the bottle. So they don't know it's better to offer
the second breast and go back to the 1st and 2nd again if needed (and
educating mom effective vs ineffective intake signs).
