My (adopted ) daughter is only feeding her two+year-old at night now and
that less and less.
5 days ago she was visiting me and suddenly said 'Ow' and clutched her
breast. She had a sharp pain. There was nothing to see or palpate, no lumps,
heat or redness, nothing. Feeding, massage, heat, ibuprofen didn't relieve
it and she felt 'fluey' that night and the next, still no signs apart from
the pain which was increasing. So she went to DR who said mastitis and
started her on antibiotics. 48 hours later not much different when her
daughter accidently kicked VERY hard in the painful breast. She felt
something go 'pop' and the pain immediately disappeared leaving a slight
tenderness in the surrounding tissues which quickly dissapated over the next
24 hours. There was never any outward signs, just the pain.
Could it have been a blocked duct or even an abcess? was something twisted
and then untwisted? Whatever it was it must have been very deep. I'm
fascinated, I've really enjoyed the ups and downs of her breastfeeding
experience. Having never bf myself she has taught me more than I could ever
learn from textbooks and I'm so grateful to her.
