Mandibular Frenulum Abnormality May Signal Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric
Stenosis

Among 25 infants with infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS), 92%
had a hypoplastic or absent mandibular frenulum, Italian researchers report
in the March issue of The Journal of Pediatrics.

Dr. De Felice's group reports that mandibular frenulum abnormalities and
milk formula feeding, a known risk factor, were significant predictors of
IHPS. The specificity of hypoplastic or absent mandibular frenulum to
identify infants with IHPS was 98.4%.
