On admit the mothers are asked are you going to breastfeed, bottle feed, or
do both? There's really no discussion or expounding on the options and
reasons. We are working with the nurses to dialogue and interact more with
mom re her feeding decision. There is a person to abstract the feeding info
for The Joint Commission. I am told not to change the wording or the
options "breast, bottle, or both." I was in favor of exclusive, partial,
and no bf.>

Laurie, I feel your pain, truly I do.  I must admit that my first reaction was to wonder why in the world anyone is trying to have a serious conversation about anything other than labor when I mother comes to have a baby.  I will never forget arriving in very active labor and the staff discovering that they'd "lost" my pre-admit paperwork.  They wanted me to fill everything out all over again; not happening.  This was a labor in which I went from 6 cm to babe in my arms in 30 minutes.

While I understand the need to get this information, I long for the day when feeding method is more than a box that's checked when you get to the hospital.
