Can someone provide me with a citation on the fact that deep suctioning of a
newborn (unless absolutely necessary) can lead to problems with sucking? I
just went to a conference on newborn physical assessment and the NP giving it
referred to sucking disorders R/T suctioning.

We have one pedi who is big into vigorous suctioning and I was talking to her
about this the other night. I would like to provide her (and members of our
nursing staff) with documentation of this.

Thanks in advance.

Betsy Riedel, R.N.C. in spring-like Connecticut
