Fellow Lactnuts,
Today I wish I were in the good old US with physical therapists trained in
sacro-cranial massage. I just got home from seeing a baby born Saturday.
Cesarean birth due to low level of amniotic fluid and deteriorating
placenta. Baby first nursed about 2 hours after birth. Today Mom's nipples
are already cracked. Upon oral exam, baby has a disorganized suck and tends
to clench. We are using suck training to improve the suck, and it does seem
to help, at least when he sucks on the finger. There is clear improvement.
But he still wants to clench on the breast. Nipples are average size and
well everted. Baby has also vomited twice. Once yesterday and once today.
Yesterday they blamed it on meds in mom's milk, and today on baby being
upset. I think baby needs sacro-cranial therapy, but no one here does that.
Can anyone give me any ideas to help this baby be less tense. I searched
the archives and found a great post from Sat. that I hadn't gotten around to
reading yet. I will follow this thread carefully, and would appreciate any
suggestions! What did we do before we found the physical therapists????
