i have a patient who produces virtually no milk, and gave her baby
dairy-based formula the first two weeks, before she called me, causing him to
have the screaming colic. now, at six weeks, he is on donor milk but
unfortunately not the non-dairy variety, and has terrible eczema. she drinks
from a variety of wells, and so took him to the homeopath, who told her "you
can't POSSIBLY put cortisone cream on that because it will drive the poisons
inside and that would be far worse!"

internal eczema, what a concept. of course, this person had no knowledge
about breastfeeding management whatsoever.

and no, i don't believe in the "blaming the victim" theory that explains all
these stories as a lie or invention or misunderstanding on the part of the
mother. it is often accurate reporting.
