Marcia,
Mothers know. I agree with mother that this is more than just a bf issue,
but obviously with a young baby, the bf is a major part of it. I do not have
any bf suggestions other than what you and mother have figured out to try.
Mother will
know best what works.
I would want to know how baby's wt gains are doing, of course. I would
suggest she possibly see a developmental pediatrician, which when I googled
developmental pediatrician minnesota, there were 7 and a university and a
Childrens' hospital. I'm not sure her health care beliefs as far as seeing
this type of doctor, and her geographic and financial constraints. That
would be where I would start.
Although this is not likely a contributing factor, I would also look at
mom's diet, just in case, there is an overabundance of caffiene or
something, which I have seen one case of a mom of Asian ethnicity drinking
large amounts of espresso-type coffee, and it affecting the baby.
Could it possibly be that baby is in a hyperthyroid state?
If baby is really not nursing much, mother should also be protecting her
supply, under these circumstances. Does baby eat or want to eat any solids?
and if so, are texture and touch issues a problem as well? This would go
along with sensory integration issues.
Please share with mother that I would strongly encourage her to continue to
seek out healthcare providers that will listen and take her seriously. From
mother's excellent description, I do feel this warrants further
investigation. It may get to the point where the child is not getting
adequate nutrition due to these issues.
