I have had such a happy day I want to share it with you all. The county I
live in has a pediatric society which sponsors monthly luncheon meetings at
which members present on various topics for the edification of each other
and, especially, residents in training. The ripe fruits of many years of
effort from many bfg advocates was in evidence. So many women doctors have
nursed babies now, and they are older and beginning to occupy positions
which allow them to be in charge of such meetings. Two, who happen to be
old clients of mine, organized a breastfeeding theme for today's meeting.
One of them presented a clever, quick over-view of the new AAP guidelines
and showed a quite good positioning video. ( I think it was Verity
Livingston's. ) I did about 20 min of lively Q&A on management questions
that was great fun and full of laughter. Then, Sonny Rivera, our wonderful
local neonatologist (the one who is starting the milk bank) told about THAT
project. He's so cool. He said: "Of course everyone in OUR NICU is told
"You WILL supply breastmilk for your baby!" The donor milk is for the few
moms who physically can't." People's eyes were bugging out.

There were over a hundred docs there, and they were sooooo receptive. I
passed out copies of the laminated drugs in bmilk that Kay Hoover created
for the Philadelphia Dept. of Health, and when I didn't have enough to go
around there was almost a revolution! Someone had to promise to go make
copies for the stragglers and outlayers. So anyway, it was just a great
day.
