Just on a side note- I would explore the moms reluctance regarding a GT tube. I think a parent may look at the insertion if GT as a failure or permanent step
And scary but the NG is not very comfortable as it irritates the nasal passages and goes down the back of the throat. For long- term
supplemental feeds the GT is a much better option, easy to use, more comfortable for the baby and can be taken out when no longer needed.
I think they may be able to accomplish more skills orally without the NG in place.

This was our experience with my grandniece Charlotte who suffered a TBI - you could see that the NG was annoying and uncomfortable for her- the nutritionists used the GT more as a "threat" if we couldn't force enough fluids down orally. I got involved and said " So be it!
She needs a GT - it's not the end of the world". Her oral skills progressed in leaps and bounds after that. She has had it in 16 mo but now it's only used for breastmilk & extra fluids at night. Prob will be removed by the end of the year.

Good luck with this case :)
