Yes, the peppermint (or clove) oil does NOT go directly on breast or nipple,
but may be put on a swab and wafted close to the baby's nose so that the
scent makes them more alert.  This is from Kelly Taubert, an OT in Wyoming.
Sounds like something to try before more extreme measures are used.
