A client of mine from Panama told me that her 6-month old had recently been
diagnosed with conjunctivitis. She was given medication by the pediatrician,
but never used it. Instead, she used breastmilk as recommended by her
mother. Her husband, born in the US, was very much opposed to this.
However, the eyes cleared up and he is now a believer. The understanding
that breastmilk is both a food and a medicine is common in most other parts
of the world. How backwards and behind we are here in the US when it comes
to mother's milk.
