Hi Deb,

Thanks for a wonderful post. I think that you are very right about the
environment being a big factor. I have many RN/IBCLC colleagues (and
dear friends) and they are also quite upset much of the time by the
way that the hospital environment prevents them from practicing the
way that they would like to. They got into this because of their
passion for helping breastfeeding mothers and babies, as do many RNs.
However, there are more and more that see it as just another
sub-specialty, another certification to be earned. I hope that those
passionate about breastfeeding will be the ones making the key
decisions and continuing to fight for the normality of breastfeeding.
