I recently wrote an article for a Canadian magazine about breastfeeding and
in my discussion of engorgement I explained that it was not normal and could
be avoided. The editor insisted that she had suffered through engorgement,
everyone she knew had experienced it, and it must be normal. After much
discussion, I eventually had to add a line to the article saying something
like "In many hospitals, engorgement is so common that it may be seen as
normal." before explaining how it could be prevented.

It is greatly encouraging to me to read that in the U.K. engorgement is
rarely seen. I hope that will be true for Canada, too, in the near future.
