Melisa,

Check the archives on this subject, as I have contributed on the topic in the
past.

I would strongly suggest that the mother get her hands on a copy of William
Shaw's book "Biological Treatments for Autism and PDD", as well as taking a
look at his website www.greatplainslaboratory.com. It talks about the
connection of diet and Candida to autism.

There is absolutely NO evidence (to my knowledge, and I've really researched
this one) that suggests that weaning a child who is suspected of having
autism is necessary or even helpful. In fact, one of my son's doctors here
is very supportive of my RELACTATING to give my son the gut-healing
properties of breastmilk, and he is 7 (and has been weaned for 3 years). If
the mother is willing and able, adjusting her diet to eliminate gluten and
casein, along with any other possible offending foods, might actually lead to
an improvement in her child's behavior.

Please e-mail me privately if you would like to discuss this further. Tell
that mom NOT to give up and wean. There's no reason to and it's probably one
of the few means of comfort and communication for them.
