We held our third annual awards ceremony on the steps of our state capitol
building here in Austin this morning in honor of World Breastfeeding Week.
Our Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies Breastfeeding Coalition presents our
"Hero" award to  individuals whose dedication to maternal-child health
through support of breastfeeding deserves recognition.   This year's Hero
was George Sharpe, MD, neonatologist and co-founder of the Mothers Milk Bank
at Austin.  The Mayor of Austin gave a wonderful speech, and there were moms
and babies, lactation consultants, La Leche Leaguers, friends from the Texas
Dept of Health, and several Lact-nuts, (Hi Anna Swisher and Linda Duce!)
One of the local TV stations covered the event.  I really enjoy hearing what
others do to mark the occasion, and thought people might be interested in
our celebration.
