Thanks for sending in the good ideas so far.
Recently I have drawn little graphs, which I explain are to illustrate an
idea, and are not truly mathematical. They consist of one simple but flowing
line which starts out high, then drops down after a while, slowly but surely
getting lower than the initial flat line that began, then drops noticeably and
sharply so. I try to explain that the top line is the best that we can do for
the baby in terms of exclusive breastfeeding and whatever optimum health and
well-being might be for this baby. The slowly dropping line, which is a
little lower than that, is partial breastfeeding, with less breastfeeding and more
artificial feeding. This line is still much closer to the top line than
the bottom one. That one,the bottom one represents baby who gets NO
breastfeeding or breastmilk to try to illustrate that we know that a baby who gets any
breastmilk at all is getting a nourishment and immunity gift they can get
nowhere else, so that even one nursing or pumping a day is worthwhile and weaning
does not have to be complete. If pumping is too much work, or the baby never
latches, even one feeding with breastmilk or one pumping, giving some
breastmilk at every feeding, can make a profound difference. I have seen this seem
to make sense esp for moms whose babies are digestively and otherwise much
happier on even a little breastfmilk, and it helps them continue partial
breastfeeding or some pumping rather than completely abandoning the whole idea.
Just another idea...
