I agree that Lactnet should not be used to advertise everybody`s private 
projects but it would be useful to get notices of conferences.  Not all 
counsellors can afford to go to the widely advertised events in the USA and 
if we know there is something scheduled nearer home, that could be very 
useful.  Any comments on this.

Incidentally, the Israel Deputy Minister of Health (the Minister himself is 
also PM and far too busy to bother himself with the affairs of the health 
ministry) has just recommended that the price of baby formula be reduced to 
help needy families.  That is a continuation of the saga in which I have 
tried without success to persuade food charities to pay for a breastfeeding 
hot-line rather than donations of formula which are accompanied by the logo 
and vast publicity for the formula companies.

Since the Deputy Minister is from a population that has large families and 
has a good track record for breastfeeding, it is surprising that he should 
endorse subsidizing formula instead of promoting breastfeeding and funding 
more lactation counsellors in public health facilities.
