Yesterday there was a note from Rachael Hamlet (I think it was Rachael)
regarding a breastfeeding mom who needed to undergo a breast biopsy.
I don't have the note in front of me, so I hope this information is
helpful. Last year a friend of mine was in a similar situation. She
was nursing her son and felt a noticalbe lump in her breast. Since there
ia hx of brast cancer inthe family she was quite concerned. She went to
several physicians to get opinions regarding the lump and the ability to
breastfeed in spite ot the biopsy. She found a wonderful physician who
herself had had such a biopsy while nursing her baby. Her recommendation
was to stop nursing on the affected side for two days prior to the procedure
and i think she could begin nursing agin on that side two or three days
after the procedure. The reasonthe physician wanted her to wait after the
biopsy was that the milk was likely to have blood in it from teh incision
which is not in itself dangerous, just not very tasty or pleasant. I don't
know if my friend underwent exactly the same procedure, but I hope this
info. is helpful.
