Hi All,
As a person with a degree in Child Development I am appalled at the attitude
of the "Ezzo" philosophy. And I am afraid for the babies who are subjected
to the treatment as a result of this philosophy.
As we all know, BF babies need to eat every 2 hours or so, and to force them
to eat when the parents schedule them is cruel, and IMHO, could be considered
child abuse. It is insensitive and cold hearted to force a hungry child to
wait until the prescribed time to eat, especially if that time is 30+ minutes
away! What a way to teach a child what they are worth. :/ Also, IMHO, it
is cruel to limit the feeding the way the Ezzo parents are supposed to.
One of the first things I learned in school about children is how they form
their opinions about the world and people around them. Trust vs Mistrust is
so easy to mess up when you are ill informed. The children of Ezzo believers
will, IMHO, not have a good sense of trust because their needs have not been
met in infancy. They have been forced to wait for food, love and attention.
I hate to see how they will behave in relationships as adults. How
children react to strangers has already been addressed, but I want to add
that in our society, I WANT my child to shy away from people he doesn't know.
I don't want him to go willingly and happily to someone just because Ezzo
says he should. I could lose him in a heartbeat that way. I have a friend
who forces her 8 mo old to be held by someone he doesn't know and tells him
that he's just going to have to get used to it. Meanwhile. the child is
screaming and crying, reaching for his mommy who turns her back on him and
walks away. She tried this with me, and I refused to take the child. I
refuse to play a part in treating a child this way.
I can't understand why people would want to treat their children in this
fashion. We all know that babies aren't little adults in chaos. They are
babies who need experiences to learn and grow cognatively and emotionally,
and forcing them to do things that are not in their nature is inhumane, IMHO.

Ok, I'll stop now. I guess this is a soapbox for me. My family doesn't like
the way I raise my kids. You see, I don't spank and I don't berate and
belittle, or insult my kids. I do things a lot differently than I was
taught, and I am really glad I do! My oldest son is a great kid, and he had
a really tough first 5 years. He has turned out to be a great kid, and I can
only pray for the products of "Ezzo" that they will turn out half as good as
my kid.
