There is a traveling NICU RN education program in the USA taught by developmental specialists, that sings praises of the Dr. Brown bottle. There are NICU RNs who go to their local store to buy them for the babies in their NICU (thought only the hospital could or should buy supplies / equipment for patients). They are absolutely convinced that these bottles prevent colic and are the next best thing to breastfeeding.
Again, no independent research studies to back up these claims.

The claims made for the Dr Brown
feeding bottle in the adverts are completely over the top, and the bottle
looks like a real trap for milk residue in the patented tube that goes from
the teat to the bottom of the bottle, something about equalizing pressure in
the throat and ear, and preventing earaches.

Rather than relying on hearsay about a purported rating of pumps, get the
family in question to bring you the original source material. Here's my
money, betting it is pure unadulterated advertising masquerading as a
'scientific study'.

I wrote to Dr Brown's and asked for the references for their claims they
make for their bottles. All I got back were articles from magazines for
parents, written by someone who must have been on their payroll. Complete,
total BS.

I don't even care whether their pump works. I wouldn't buy it nor would I
recommend to a mother that she do so, because I avoid supporting companies
who violate the WHO code.
