My answer to you was for exam purposes... in all honesty... if the milk is kept cold, I have given it to my son within 48 hours and he was JUST FINE! No weird stools or upset tummy or anything. but 24hr. is the general and "official" rule of thumb because it just hasn't really been tested past that.
