Hi All,

This is a question posed by one of my staff nurse coworkers. If a baby is actively sucking and swallowing, feeding eagerly, do we recommend taking the baby off the breast after 1/2 hour to offer the other side? In a hospital she previosly worked, the LC's there said there were studies to show that the breast gets drained after 1/2 hour and the mom should switch. I usually say if the baby is actively feeding/swallowing, we don't take the baby off until there is no more swallowing or the baby lets go. Watch the baby not the clock. Are there such studies and what are they?
Thank you.
