Why?

Day 2?

On what grounds did the paed think that breastfeeding needed to be 
interfered with in any way at all at that point?

Why is that 'all good'?

There must have been some reason given....if the 10 per cent weight 
loss is regarded as too much, then simply encouraging more skin to 
skin and therefore more frequent bf would have been sufficient, would 
it not?  There's no urgency anyway, not with a baby feeding well and 
voiding normally - another weight could have been done in a couple of 
days.

Am I missing something?

If a mother wants to remove milk mechanically as early as day 2 (for 
any reason), a pump much less effective than manual expression, 
anyway.
