Hi all,
With regard to what Jennifer Tow wrote:
I also am beginning to feel that there is less and less reason for me to
recertify, at 20 years.
We studied, we worked hard to get in all the necessary hours, we are hooked
to Lactnet, and we go to every single possible conference to lap up yet more
information, we recertified at 5 years, spending tons of money on
conferences and CERPS, redid yet another expensive and time-consuming exam
at 10 years, recertified at 15 and now - I honestly can not think of a
reason to take the exam. For an international organisation to be able to
dictate how each medical system works all over the world, and come up with
one set of guidelines, rules or what have you that fits all, seems at best
impossible. Not every part of the world is lawsuit happy, if that is what is
prodding them into such restrictive directives. With talk of a secondary
pathway, yet another way to bring in hard needed cash, perhaps I will wait.
see which way this new pathway brings us. If after having written articles,
booklets, (my short concise "how-to" booklet in Hebrew is being printed in
Russian as we write!) and establishing myself in our small country as a
private practice IBCLC, and with so many great names in the Lactation world
who are NOT IBCLC's, well maybe there are more ways that ONE. Between you
and me, no one - Not ILCA, not the IBLCE or any other body has succeeded in
educating the public of the necessity of employing the services of an IBCLC
over any other Lactation specialist. So, can anyone here perhaps give me a
good reason to recertify?
Maybe just like there are IBCLC2B or wannabe lists, we should start up
EXIBCLC organisation and digests. I am not the only one who feels like this.
(maybe just the only one willing to get it out there in the open!!)
Thanks.
