"I am looking for some support for a new mom with primary lactation failure.
She is breastfeeding "by any means necessary" and supplementing , of course.
She is in the Wash, DC area. She would love to have someone to talk to in
her situation, or possibly an e-group type of support would be beneficial
too-"

She'd be welcome at the Adoptive Breastfeeding Resource Website.
www.fourfriends.com/abrw There are adoptive moms who post, are supplementing
long-term, and also some bio moms who need to supplement for one reason or
another. Is she supplementing at the breast? I have spent a total of about
six years of my life nursing with supplementers (mostly Lact-Aid but SNS
some, too). Especially if this mom wants to nurse for a long time, it would
be very helpful for her to get to a point of establishing a routine and
coming to see that as normal for her and her baby. She will be well served
by the frequent reminders she will see at ABRW, of the importance of
nurturing at the breast, and providing even a small amount of breast milk,
and find suggestions for handling supplementation at the breast without alot
of effort. Hopefully, she can settle into a routine where she only needs
to evaluate her actual milk production periodically, and can just relax and
nurse most of the time. We have seen alot of moms throw in the towel early
on, because of constant concern over how much milk they were producing. It
just gets to be too stressful.

Aloha,
Darillyn
