Cindy,
I don't know about bf with GD but I can tell you that this mom may not
have it with her second pregnancy. My understanding is that the cause
of GD is from two things. THe placenta releases a hormone that blocks
insulin receptors in the mother, in order to increase suply of sugar to
the baby. So either the placenta is making "too much" of this hormone
or the mother doesnt have enough "spare" receptors. Or of course, it could
be a combination of the two. IF its the placenta, then another pregnancy
could be completely different. If its the mother, then chances are she'll
get it again. Does this mom have any family history of diabetes? this
may help. In any case, she should get tested and not assume.
I had GD with my first pregnancy and not my second. The first was also
controlled with diet, and I have NO family history of diabetes that I
know of. Nor am I obese. BTW, the OB was suprised I got it the first time
and a dif OB was suprised I didn't get it the second because my sugar
clearance test was so awful when Idid have it. I hope your mom will
be as lucky as I was! Let us know!

I have a question about hours needed to sit for the IBCLE. Why does having
a college education reduce the number of hours you need from 4000 to 2500?
(someone posted that) What does one have to do with the other? I could see

how you may have less study requirements, but less contact hours?
just wondering.
thanks for all this great info
Dalia
