Judy I raised the IQ issue as I felt that some people were getting a bit
carried away with speculating on infant feeding and IQ.  I am not sure
with hindsight that it was a good idea!  The point I was trying to make
was that there are folks out there who do not like IQ tests, and who
will dismiss anything we have to say about intelligence/brain
development if it is all pinned to IQ tests.  I personally do not have a
background to make these sort of judgements, but I do know some
very caring and knowledgeable people who have serious concerns
about IQ testing.

I'm not sure that your comparision with higher 'resistance' to juvenile
diabetes etc holds -  after all that would be based on observations of a
measurable quantity ie the rate of incidence of that condition in a
population.  I don't think many people would disagree on a definition
of juvenile diabetes - but I'm not a medic!

I would like to take the opportunity to emphasise again that I am not
questioning the benefits of breastfeeding, or the risks in not
breastfeeding.  I do think we should be sure of our ground, if we seem
to be overstating our case we may be dismissed out of hand which
may not be in the best interests of mothers and babies.
