Jimmie Avery says that the fluid that moms inducing lactation see first can be tinted many different colors, but it is usually pretty clear.  I have never seen anything other than a few tiny, colorless drops, followed by white.  Some moms say it looks like colostrum (there is debate over whether it could be true colostrum, without human placental lactogen).  At any rate, anything thick and dark sounds like it is outside of normal.  I would think it would be preferable if whatever it is would clear out before anything was saved for the baby.  

I'd like to hear any further information anyone finds!
