I have seen this phenomenon numerous times even when pumping is
started after the first few hour. (Getting a noticable volume the
first pumping or so and then little or nothing, with the volume
building over the next couple days)
Some women leak colostrum before the baby comes. It is apparant
that production begins before labor and delivery. I wonder if what
mom pumps the first time or so may be what has "accumulated" before
birth while what she gets after that is what is being produced at
the time in response to hormonal changes and breast stimulation/milk
removal.
