I also wrote them and I got a different response than the one posted by Megan. I haven't been able to find the article again to check and see if it really has been changed. Their response and my letter is posted at the end.

Dear [log in to unmask],

The author of the piece erred in leaving this bullet out of the news story,
and that error was not detected by the Reviewer. The story is being
corrected as I write this response to you.

Our Editorial Staff is separated from and protected from the advertising
staff and our sponsors (as is the practice in any quality news
organization). This was an error of omission rather than of commission.

We have policies and procedures in place to ensure that our content is
accurate; we also recognize the importance of "reading and reacting to our
users' e-mails" as part of those procedures. Correcting articles based upon
reader observations happens infrequently but regularly within those standard
policies and procedures.

Thanks for the help.

Subject: something missing from APP statement[#4987978]

Dear WebMD,

Just wondering why in your article on the AAP statement on reducing
obesity in children you left out one of the key statements by the AAP
"Encourage, support, and protect breastfeeding."??? Is it because that
positive statement about breastfeeding would be in conflict with your
advertising supporters that make artificial milk??? I be looking forward
to seeing this article revised and corrected asap.

AAP statement:
"Recommendations in the policy include:
* Identify and track patients at risk by virtue of family history,
birth weight, socioeconomic, ethnic, cultural or environmental factors
* Calculate and plot BMI once a year in all children and adolescents.
* Use change in BMI to identify rate of excessive weight gain relative
to linear growth.
* Encourage, support and protect breastfeeding.
* Encourage parents and caregivers to promote healthy eating patterns.
* Routinely promote physical activity, including unstructured play.
* Recommend limitation of television and video time to a maximum of two
hours per day. "

Your version:
"Key recommendations include:
* Identify and track children at risk for becoming overweight due to a
family history of obesity, birth weight, socioeconomic status,
ethnicity,
and other cultural and environmental factors.
* Calculate and plot BMI once a year in all children and adolescents
according to CDC growth charts for age and sex.
* Use changes in BMI to identify excessive weight gain relative to
growth.
* Encourage parents and caregivers to promote healthy eating patterns.
* Routinely promote physical activity, including unstructured play.
* Limit television and video time to a maximum of two hours per day. "
