I've posed this questions to our Medela Rep and she's going to check on it - the Hollister kits we get are marked 'ready to use' - the Medela ones are NOT and the instructions clearly recommend washing and then boiling for 20 minutes (just had to do this last Friday night at the home of a very engorged mom and a very jaundiced baby).

My question to Medela (and to Hollister or any other pump company) - with equipment that might be used in an LCs office to get breasts softer after engorgement to possibly use the milk to feed the baby while we're getting breastfeeding going, etc is:

Often packing is done outside the US - therefore - what are their quality assurance policies, how clean is the environment these parts are packed, how clean the packers (I assume these are all hand packed), is there any evaluation via testing for bacterial count, etc. done?

So far I've not gotten an answer - but if YOU ask YOUR Rep, maybe the companies will get the idea and get us all the information we need!
