I finally got around to reading my Friday paper and noticed an article that
the Center For Disease Control wants all mothers to voluntarily be tested for
HIV.  Let me quote exactly as it was in the Dayton Daily News on Friday July
7:

Who: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta

What:  Recommends that women infected with HIV begin taking AZT by the 14th
week of pregnancy and continue taking the drug through delivery.

In Addition:  Suggests that newborns should receive the drug for the first
six weeks of life to protect them during breastfeeding.

The Key:  To ensure widest possible use of this preventive medicine, the CDC
recommends that all pregnant women get tested for HIV.

Is there someone who has more information about the breastfeeding part of
this?  Are they talking about all breastfeeding infants or are they saying
that BF is so important it should be done by HIV infected women and is OK if
the baby gets AZT?
