learn to nurse with the baby in a sling. my first, after about 6
weeks of age, would no longer nurse in my arms (cradle, cross or
football). she would nurse *only* in the bed or other flat surface
with both of us sidelying. omg it was brutal.

when she was about 16 weeks old, someone taught me how to use my sling
and it changed our lives. maybe Alana felt supported enough...as if
she were lying down? I don't know but it did mostly work.

flying was stressful though - and we flew a lot..22 trips by the time
she was 29 years old. many of the flights were overseas. the
trickiest part was that when I first put her in the sling to get her
latched on, I had to be moving. unless I was moving, she woulnd't
latch. so there was a lot of screaming on the plane unlil I could get
up, walk the aisles while latching her, then return to my seat....at
which point she would sleep/nurse for hours.

in the sling though I could nurse her cradle, football and vertically
(ie she was 'upright'...kind of half way between a snugglehold and the
hip carry...my friends and I called it the 'drop down' b/c it was
snugglehold dropped down to nipple level - a bit off to the side....)

hth.....am happy to talk her through it via email if she likes. i
also have quite the system down for managing the
stroller/carseat/carryon/baby:) most of our travel was done alone...
