With regard to skin colour, hair colour, I wonder if there has been any
mention of dry or oily skin type and nipple trauma?  I counselled two
sisters who each had babies at the same time.  Both dark haired, however
one who claimed her skin was so dry that her feet constantly cracked
around the heels, elbows scalp and exposed skin needed frequent
moisturising.  The other sister was the opposite with oily skin which
'glowed' with oil, and (in her words) hair you could fry your chips in.
The dry skinned mum' baby had very poor sucking tecnique, prissy mouth
and short frenulum.  By end of first week,  mum had very cracked,
bleeding and excrutiating nipples.  They decided to swap babies for a few
days.  Oily skinned mum found the feeds painful too, and by the fourth
day had grazed, but bearable nipples.  Of course they swapped back and
forth, so oily skinned mum didn't have to suffer every feed.  Eventually
dry skinned mum tried purified wool fat and things improved from there.

Oily skinned mum had second child with almost identical problems as her
sister's first, had sore, grazed and painful nipples, yet never cracked.
 Eventually went on to suck retraining tecniques at 3 months.
