I look at the output for the first 24-48 hrs.  If there are 4-6 or more wets per day and several stools, that explains the weight loss.  There seems to be a related pattern with high output and 2-4 liters of IV fluids mom received in labor.  I tell parents (who are often scared) that a 10% weight loss does not necessarily mean milk supply/milk transfer is poor, it means take a closer look.
