Hi Maria,

While I understand your POV, I have not seen anyone here, including Sarah,
applauding formula. A lot of personal experiences are what can eventually
become the basis for evidence-based information (evidence-based does not
necessarily just mean research-based). One of the difficulties with
breastfeeding information (as well as plenty of medical information in
general) is that there is no solid research to back it up. I think that we
need to share our experiences with each other so that we can gain a fuller
understanding of what actually happens in the real world and how often.
There is a lot of grey out there, even in lactation. We all support
breastfeeding and are trying to help mothers reach their goals. But we
can't do that if we put our heads in the sand and not try to understand the
huge diversity of what mothers experience. After all the years I have been
doing this, it is still humbling to sometimes face another situation where
I just cannot figure out why a baby will not go to breast or does not
thrive on human milk.

Please be kind to your colleagues.

Sharon
