If a mom has low milk supply and other hypothyroid
symptoms but comes up with normal thyroid level from lab
tests you'll want to read on!!

Couple to couple league Family Foundations published an article
by Marilyn Shannon in its May June 95 issue about how people who
have low thyroid are being diagnosed, because of innacurate
blood tests. The article stated that Dr. Broda Barne's book
Hypothyroidism-The Unsuspected Illness, explains how the older
tests for thyroid function were replaced by laboratory tests for
thyroid hormone, not thyroid *function*." Barnes beleives the
basal temperature test for thyroid function to be more accurate.
Doctor Broda Barnes and Dr. Denis Wilson, author of Wilson's
Syndrome: the miracle of feeling well, also agree that modern
medicine often treats low thyroid with the wrong form of thyroid
hormone replacement therapy.
CCL had a follow up article in its Sept/Oct. issue
explaining in detail Dr. Wilsons theory that "the thyroid gland
may be healthy but an individual may still suffer from low
thyroid function with its attendant symptoms. ...Ex)The body
must convert T4 to the active T3 in many tissues *outside* the
thyroid gland. Dr. Wilson states that sometimes the tissues of
the body fail to change T4 to T3, and instead convert the T4
into reverse T3. Revearse T3 is worthless as a thyroid
hormone." so the way I understand it is that if a person gets
treated with synthroid (T4) when the thyroid gland itself is the
problem -great! But if its the conversion process in the
tissues that's the problem then active T3 is the solution that
works. According to Wilson the treatment need only be
temporary.
The ccl article also includes the nutritional and natural
things you can do to help your thyroid function.
..Wilson believes that major physical and emotional stresses
can trigger the body to do this, resulting in weight gain, low
body temperature, fatigue, decreased fertility, and so forth.
...Dr. Wilson prefers to use an average daily temperature
instead of the basal temperature in diagnosing.

I wonder if there is anything on the internet but I never find
anything I'm looking for when I do a search on something.

Marilyn Shannons book Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition also has
useful info. on how to tell if you have a thyroid problem. Its
a fabulous book if you have *any* weirdness about your cycles.
