Thank you for sharing all your knowledge about how to warm milk. We were
also placing the capped syringe in a styrofoam cup (each baby has its own)
with warm water. Recently it was brought to our attention though that tap
water is high in pseudomonas, acinobacter, and serratia, which has been
implicated in contamination of feedings and outbreaks in NICUs. This can
be caused by leaking caps or handling.
Anyways, we decided to now warm the milk in the milk containers/bottles in
the styrofaom cups, and then draw it up with a syringe. Hopefully this
will decrease contamination risks. We do not warm the milk if it will be
infusing over more than 1 hour.
Thanks again,
Joedi
