The password idea on the archives on the web would not make sense, and would
just make things a little more complicated.  THis is from our systems admin....

"Putting a password on only one means of access to  the archives of a public
list makes  no sense.  Everything on  LACTNET has been available  since day
one by anonymous ftp and by unrestricted requests from LISTSERV.  Note also
that because  the list has been in  the LISTSERV global database  since its
inception, it  has *always* been easy for  anyone, without knowing even our
host name, to find the list, request the archives, etc.  The password would
not improve security (there  is none, people need to  realize that), AND it
would make access less convenient, defeating the Web server's purpose."
