8 wks of frustration because no one asked about her history.I don't get it.

I am so with you on that one, Jaye. My very best friend in the entire world
experienced this as well. Even the IBCLC she saw had NO IDEA what
hypoplasia/insufficient glandular tissue was! I was very upset (I was
acting as her best friend and researching for her, but with LLL Leader as my
only credential, it felt awful that no one could help her more than I
could!).

How am I going to be part of the solution? I think someday I'll get my own
IBCLC credential (I'm working and hoping!) and hypoplasia will be one of my
areas of focus. Even before that, though, I hope to be able to present to
other lactation support workers (LLL Leaders, IBCLCs, nurses) some
comprehensive information about this condition, which inmy limited
experience, happens far more often than the published statistics suggest.

You will be happy to know that Diana West and Lisa Marasco have authored a
book that gives a huge amount of information about this and other low milk
production topics. When it is released, it will be an incredible resource.

--Diana in NY (my best friend and another very close friend both suffer from
hypoplasia, as well as a woman in my community who called me for help within
weeks of my best friend's baby being born)
